Reimagined Signs for Modern Times

What we did
Communications
Artwork / Production
Illustration / CGI
Research / Immersion
Wells & Co. approached us to deliver a consistent style to their pub sign pictorials to unify and modernise their estate. They wanted the new designs to represent the fresh thinking of Wells & Co. while taking care not to lose what makes a traditional pub sign so iconic.
The old English local can be one of the pillars of the community so we researched the heritage of each pub to make sure we were sympathetic to the location, the history and included elements from previous iterations of the pub signage where it was appropriate.
Our whimsical, surrealist illustrations draw from the character of each individual pub while still working as a recognisable suite. As well as a consistent lock-up we gave each illustration a playful gastronomic twist to infuse them with Wells & Co’s forward thinking DNA.

“Rooted in storytelling and tradition, a good pub sign is one of the things that makes a proper pub feel like a proper pub. With our illustrations we strove to balance fun and innovation with this heritage, breathing new life into established norms.”
